The National Women’s Council of Ireland would like to extend an invitation to you all on behalf of Feminist Communities for Climate Justice and the Climate Justice Universities Union to our event, ‘AI, Misogyny & Climate Justice: How is AI Impacting Us & How do we Respond?’.
We have designed this event so that community workers/organisers and those in women’s advocacy organisations can mix with those well-embedded in climate (justice) spaces, allowing for a better understanding of AI and its impacts at the grassroots level – including the risk of it being weaponised to create division in communities and its ongoing impact for women’s digital safety. This event will utilise the Open Space format, allowing attendees to create the agenda for the day and the questions asked within the assigned theme.
The event will be taking place at Regent House, Trinity College Dublin on June 24th from 10:30 to 15:30. We’d be delighted if you could join us on the day. Register here
AI, Misogyny & Climate Justice: How is AI Impacting Us & How do we Respond?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is everywhere, particularly generative AI that creates text, images, videos, audio, and other forms of data by extracting content from across the internet. But what does this mean? Is it a good thing, even when there are harmful impacts? What does it mean for our communities, our climate and our cause?
The expansion of AI – and the energy-hungry data centres it relies on – has drastically increased demand for fossil fuels at a time when there is an urgent need to phase out fossil fuels. The rise of AI generated deepfakes has also enabled a new form of misogyny – 96% of deepfakes are non-consensual pornography, and 99% of them feature women.
