Coalition 2030 coordinator Niall McGuirk attended this year’s HLPF along with steering Committee members Catherine Carty and Mahbub Kabir. While in New York we held meetings with many international organisations, the Irish Permanent Mission and held separate conversations with Ministers Darragh O’Brien and James Browne. We were happy to hear Minister O’Brien state that the Irish Government are committed to redoubling their efforts to ensure SDG implementation and look forward to seeing what that will mean. While there we brought the paper that was put together at the last Plenary meeting of the Coalition. This became our advocacy document in meetings as we spoke to SDG’s 6,7,9,11 and 17.

We raised the point that Coalition 2030 is an amalgamation of over 75 organisations representing a whole of civil society approach with a broad reach of over 3 million people. We spoke at 2 side events including one “From Declaration to Delivery: How Future Generations Governance Drives Transformative SDG Action” where Catherine gave an overview of our work around the Call to Action Report and subsequent calls for a Future Generations Commission for Ireland. It was a very fruitful Conference for the Coalition as we spoke to international colleagues about ways of working together and briefed on events and happenings in Ireland.
