Catherine is the UNESCO Chair Manager at Munster Technological University. The Chair works globally to advance sustainable development, human rights, and the principle of no one left behind in and through sport, physical activity and physical education. The Chair’s work involves transdisciplinary research, capacity building, advocacy, and policy support, strongly emphasising SDGs. More broadly, Catherine is leading the Ingenium European University’s work on sustainable development in Higher Education from an MTU perspective. In 2022, Catherine led a three-day session during Global Goal Week at Expo2020 Dubai as part of the Ireland at Expo program, bringing together UN and multi-lateral agencies, Governments, the Sports Sector, development banks, and human rights institutions. In 2023, the UNESCO Chair contributed a chapter to Irelands VNR on Embedding Agenda 2030 in Higher Education. This highlighted the critical role universities can and should play in supporting the delivery of the SDGs while developing key competencies among students and graduates. Catherine also works to advance local projects aimed at raising awareness and directing action towards advancing the SDGs.
